The school continues to strengthen the overall leadership and party building of the Party, establish and improve various systems such as theoretical arming, ideological education, news propaganda, and ideology, integrate the “ three-dimensional education” into the “five-in” work system, and create a brand of ideological and political education work with “party building leadership, curriculum dominance, cultural immersion, pioneer demonstration, and practical training” through famous teachers, famous doctors, cadre training forums, and youth academic salons. We strive to cultivate high-quality talents in the fields of medicine and medicine and related fields who are committed to maintaining health and protecting life, have a solid professional foundation, and have practical ability and innovative spirit. One third-batch “National Model Party Building Work Branch”, three “Provincial Party Building Work Benchmarking Departments”, and eight “Provincial Party Building Work Model Branches” were selected and cultivated. Two grassroots party committees were awarded the title of advanced grassroots party organizations in the provincial education system, and the First Affiliated Hospital was awarded the title of “Provincial Public Hospital Party Building Work Demonstration Site”. Currently, 49 undergraduate majors are offered, making it one of the pharmaceutical universities with the most complete professional categories in the country. It has 21 national and provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites such as pharmacy, clinical medicine, pharmaceutical preparations, Chinese medicine, biopharmaceuticals, and clinical pharmacy; 43 national and provincial first-class undergraduate courses such as drug analysis, Chinese medicine analysis, and health statistics, 21 provincial graduate demonstration courses and 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national joint training base for pharmacy professional degree graduate students, and 28 provincial graduate joint training demonstration bases. The School of Clinical Medicine, School of Public Health, and School of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected as the first batch of Guangdong Province’s high-level clinical medical schools, schools of public health, and schools of traditional Chinese medicine for cultivation and construction. In the past two sessions, it has won 4 first prizes and 5 second prizes in provincial teaching achievement awards. There are nearly 27,000 full-time students.

Discipline construction strengthens advantages. There are 7 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, including Guangdong Province’s key disciplines for climbing peaks, Guangdong Province’s key disciplines for advantages, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s key disciplines for traditional Chinese medicine. The large pharmacy and large health disciplines, led by pharmacy and integrated Chinese and Western medicine, have obvious advantages. It has a first-level doctoral degree authorization point for integrated Chinese and Western medicine, 5 first-level master’s degree authorization points such as pharmacy and preventive medicine, and 7 master’s professional degree authorization points. Clinical medicine, chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, agricultural sciences, biology and biochemistry have successively entered the top 1% of ESI worldwide; integrated Chinese and Western medicine ranked third in the country in the 2018 and 2019 soft rankings, and ranked fourth in the country in 2021 and 2022.

The results of talent introduction and cultivation are remarkable. There are 1,951 faculty members, including1,666 full-time teachers , 90.9% of whom have a master’s degree or above (of which more than 45% have a doctoral degree), 42.1% of whom have senior professional and technical positions, and a total of 1,173 graduate tutors (including 415 on-campus tutors, 245 external tutors, and 513 cooperative tutors). Among them, there are 163 national model teachers, experts with special allowances from the State Council, chief scientists of the Qihuang Project, national outstanding young people, members of the National Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee, members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, members of the National Pharmacopoeia Committee, talents of the Nanyue Hundred Talents Cultivation Project, Pearl River Scholars, Guangdong Famous Chinese Medicine Practitioners, Guangdong Province “Special Support Plan” series talents, Guangdong Province Teaching Masters, and 16 provincial high-level research teams.

The innovation capability continues to increase. Actively serving the major development strategies of the country and Guangdong Province, 55 national and provincial scientific research platforms have been built, including the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Glycolipid Metabolism Diseases , forming a relatively complete research and development innovation system of chemical drugs, biological drugs and traditional Chinese medicines, and integrated medicines. It has taken the lead in undertaking a number of major national and local projects, including two key projects of the National Key R&D Program “Modernization Research of Traditional Chinese Medicine”, two key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, one National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Youth Fund Project, and one Guangdong Province Basic and Applied Basic Research Major Project. The research advantages of the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the prevention and treatment of glucose and lipid metabolic diseases are outstanding. A new model of multidisciplinary integrated prevention and control of glucose and lipid metabolic diseases has been formed. The first international standard for the diagnosis and treatment of glucose and lipid metabolic diseases combined with traditional Chinese and Western medicine has been formulated and released at the 5th World Congress of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. A series of innovative Chinese medicines with independent intellectual property rights, such as FTZ, have been developed. A total of 538 national, PCT, and European and American invention patents have been granted; the clinical trial approval for the innovative Chinese medicine “Naomaitong Granules” of Class 1.1 for the treatment of ischemic stroke has been successfully applied; the national pharmacopoeia standards for orange seed salt orange seed and stir-fried cunningia seeds have been formulated and included in the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. In recent years, a total of34 scientific and technological achievements awards at the provincial and ministerial levels have been won , including the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Innovation Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award, the Wu Jieping Award, and the China Patent Excellence Award.

Social services highlight responsibility. A national-level science and technology enterprise incubator has been built, and it has been awarded the titles of postdoctoral research workstation, Guangdong Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base, and Guangdong Industry-Education Integration Enterprise Pilot Cultivation Unit. It has taken the lead in establishing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pharmaceutical Industry Collaborative Innovation Alliance, creating the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pharmaceutical Industry Innovation and Development Summit, and hosting the 2023 First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pharmaceutical Innovation and Development Conference, to promote the innovative development of the pharmaceutical industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The “Guangzhou Pharmaceutical-Liannan” medical alliance model established by the First Affiliated Hospital has been fully affirmed by the State Council’s medical reform expert group and has been promoted by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee throughout the province. In 2023, it was selected as the construction unit of the pilot project of the “flagship” hospital for the collaboration of Chinese and Western medicine. It has vigorously implemented the “Double Hundred Action” of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, arranged on-site cadres to carry out paired assistance, and sent nearly 100 science and technology commissioners to empower enterprise development and rural revitalization. The two affiliated hospitals have sent multiple batches of medical teams to support the epidemic prevention and control work in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Wuhan, Hainan and many places in the province. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital’s joint medical team in Wuhan won the title of “National Advanced Collective for Epidemic Prevention and Control in the Health and Health System”; 6 alumni were awarded the title of National Advanced Individuals in Anti-epidemic and National Outstanding Communist Party Members.

Open cooperation shapes the brand.The university has established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 50 colleges and universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions on five continents; it recruits various types of international students from more than 20 countries including Russia, India, South Africa, and opens international classes in pharmacy. It continues to carry out high-quality international academic exchange activities. In recent years, it has held 29 high-level international academic conferences, including the Fifth World Congress of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Council of the China-Russia Medical University Alliance and the China-Russia International Medical Science and Technology Innovation and Cooperation Summit, the International Industry-University-Research Conference on the Maritime Silk Road, the “He Liang He Li” Foundation Summit Forum and Photo Exhibition, and the 5th Lingnan Metabolic Disease International Forum. Among them, it took the lead in organizing 8 Sino-Russian cooperative anti-epidemic academic activities such as the Sino-Russian Cooperation COVID-19 Prevention and Control Academic Exchange Conference. The results were included in the Chinese work report of the regular meeting between the Chinese and Russian prime ministers, and published in the headline of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “China-Russia Science and Technology Innovation Year Work Briefing” No. 5 in 2020, creating a Sino-Russian cooperation anti-epidemic academic exchange brand and contributing to the international cooperation in the fight against the epidemic. Actively participate in educational cooperation among countries along the “Belt and Road” and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promote the “Asian Campus” project, and carry out the Ministry of Education’s special program for joint training of graduate students by Chinese and foreign dual tutors and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint training program for graduate students.
