Fan Daiming is the honorary president of our university. He is currently an academician and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an academician of the American Academy of Medical Sciences. He was the former president of the Fourth Military Medical University, the former chairman of the Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, the president of the Xijing Digestive Disease Hospital, the director of the State Key Laboratory of Tumor Biology.
The director of the National Drug Clinical Trial Institution, the first batch of distinguished professors of the Yangtze River Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education, the chief scientist of the National 973 Project, the chairman of the 2013 World Congress on Gastroenterology, a representative of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a representative of the 11th National People’s Congress, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, and an outstanding scientific and technological worker. He currently serves as the vice president of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the vice president of the Asia-Pacific Society of Gastroenterology, the executive director of the World Society of Gastroenterology and the chairman of the Scientific Planning Committee, and other academic positions. He has been hired as the editor-in-chief of Engineering Science, the deputy editor-in-chief of BMC Cancer and Journal Of Digestive Diseases, and an editorial board member of 6 international journals such as Gut. He is the only editorial board member of Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology in mainland China.
Academician Fan has been engaged in clinical and basic research on digestive diseases for a long time, especially in the research of gastric cancer. He has undertaken national 863, 973, national key projects, national major new drug creation, National Natural Science Foundation and other projects. He has won 1 first, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 third prize in the National Technological Invention Award, 2 first prizes in the Military Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 first prizes in Shaanxi Science and Technology Award, 27 national invention patents, 13 utility model patents, 1 national new drug certificate, the French Academy of Medical Sciences Seville Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Highest Achievement Award, the Qiushi Practical Engineering Award, the Scientist Award, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Professional and Technical Major Contribution Award, and the Army Science and Technology Innovation Group Award. He has edited 21 monographs, including two large-scale works, “The Way of Studying – Essence” and “Medical Development – Examination”. He is the chief editor of the Basic Medicine Intensive Reading Series (10 volumes) and the Frontier of Tumor Research (14 volumes), and is also the chief editor of the National Higher Medical Education Digital Textbook (53 volumes). He has published 501 SCI papers in foreign journals such as Lancet, Nature Clinical Practice Oncology, Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Gut, etc., with a total impact factor of 2153.6 points, the highest of which is 39 points, and his papers have been cited more than 10,000 times. In 2010, he was awarded the first-class merit by the Central Military Commission.
